Favorite All-Time (mostly):
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - out of any book, this is the one I can pick up at any point and find something in it that speaks to me. It changes every time I read it, and even though there are some things I don't like (ahem...St.John?) it's still just so lovely.
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - tragic love story, raging gothic elements, desire, hatred, redemption, ghostly hands reaching out from the past - what's not to love? I will have to admit that my love for this book is deeply tied to Kate Bush's classic eighties ballad.
- The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood- I promise it's not just that I've studied it in like a billion classes with Dr. Dawkins. I really think this is my favorite dystopian novel - and I do love that genre.
- The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde - simply put, this never ever fails to make me laugh. So very witty, Mr. Wilde.
- The Little Prince (Le Petit Prince) by Antione de Saint-Exupery - this book has more wisdom in it than perhaps any other novel I have ever read. I have loved it ever since I was very little and it never ceases to give me that pleasurable sense of beauty in its effortless grace...draw me a sheep!
My favorite quote: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." I wished this was graffitied on my wall. And now, my list of current favs: (sans descriptions, because I'm getting sleepy - you'll have to guess as to why I like them!)
- Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
- Beloved by Toni Morrison
- The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
- Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhyss
- The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
